Roots of Empathy

Roots of Empathy is a classroom based program that has shown significant effect in reducing levels of aggression among school children.  A neighborhood infant and parent visit the classroom on a regular basis over the school year.  A trained Roots of Empathy instructor coaches students to observe the baby’s development and to label the baby’s feelings, helping children identify and reflect on their own feelings and the feelings of others.  This lays the foundation for more safe and caring classrooms, helping the children become more competent in understanding their own feelings and the feelings of others (empathy) and are therefore less likely to physically, psychologically and emotionally hurt each other through bullying and other cruelties.

Roots of Empathy is offered at the schools in the County of Two Hills, provided an infant/parent volunteer is available to attend the program throughout the school term.
